Beduk is an instrument made from a tree trunk which is bored hollow with both ends enclosed tightly using skin of goat, cattle, buffali or dear.

Since the early days, beduk played an important instrument and is prominently located in a mosque.
The various beats of beduks announced the beginning of prayers, commencing and breaking of fast, and other events.

A person staying as far as one mile away is able to hear the beating and could know its reasons by the types of sound.

See the real beduk at the Muzium Melayu Dunia Islam.
