客家 马六甲 Hakka Community Association

This Melaka Hakka Community Association is located in Jalan Kubu, near to the Hang Tuah Hall or in the Malay Language, Dewan Hang Tuah. The 1Malaysia logo was put up on the former State Secretariat Building that is renamed as the Urban Transformation Center today.

If we pronounced Hakka in Mandarin, it sound like this - kejia. Kejia literally means 'guest families' The Hakka people inhibited central China, moved and settled in southern China where many migrated to other countries. Hakka people formed the Han Dynasty and their migration started when the Qin Dynasty took over the reign of China. The places they migrated include Europe, North America, Australia, East Asia and Southeast Asia.

Hakka people is generally skillful in martial arts. A well known Hakka man is Yap Ah Loy, a kapitan of Kuala Lumpur from 1868 to 1885. A road is named after him and is locally said as Jalan Yap Ah Loy when you are heading for Kota Raya Complex. The 15th World Hakka Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur.

Surely, this community's heritage is valuable to the development of Melaka's heritage preservation.
