An Old Printer in Melaka

After the used of wooden blocks for prints, movable metal types appeared between 1440 and 1450. In the very much early presses, large wooden screws were tightened by means of a lever which was used to press the inked, engraved block against the paper. Paper was hand fed, sheet by sheet before it became the most important mechanical revolution in human history. Printing changed from the old hand press, to the electrical driven press. Few of the early mechanical press is now operating. Newer machines are taking over their roles. Among the few, one is located in Jonker Walk, Melaka. Royal Press
