AUNG SAN SUU KYI CONTESTING IN MYANMAR APRIL 1 ELECTION

Myanmar, formerly Burma, lying between Bengal, Assam, and the Bay of Bengal on the west, is holding an election on Sunday. In hours, Burmese would be electing their representatives in the office. Sunday will see whether Aung San Suu Kyi will win her first term in office.

A self-governing crown colony from 1937, Burma became an independent republic on January 4, 1948. In the same year, month April, Burma was admitted as the 58th member of the United Nations. The Burmese are proud that they were the first colony to break free from the British rule.
